Cock Robin Pre-school was formed in September 1971, in Churchtown, by a small group of local mums. Originally known as Churchtown and Catterall playgroup, it became “Cock Robin Pre-school” when it moved to the Methodist Church Hall on Cock Robin Lane. In 1996 the pre-school moved to Catterall Village Hall, where it was based until July 2013 and in September 2013 the pre-school were very pleased to be able to move into the Reception Class at John Cross C of E Primary School.
From September 2017, Cock Robin Pre-school has become part of John Cross school, being led by the school governors. The room was refurbished in the summer 2017, along with new high quality resources and equipment being purchased. There are close links to the EYFS and KS1 classes of John Cross with children from the nursery enjoying visits to the school classrooms and using school resources. 8 out of 9 children who started in the Reception class in 2017 came from Cock Robin Pre-school.
We have 3 qualified members of staff, Rachel, SENCO Iona and additional staff member Amanda. In addition to the nursery staff, The KS1 and EFYS teacher and leader at John Cross oversees the learning in Cock Robin and ensures there is a good transition from the pre-school to the reception class.
The group is a registered provider of Nursery Education for 2 year olds along with 3 and 4 year olds, and is OFSTED inspected.
We hope that you and your family will enjoy your involvement with our pre-school along with John Cross school. If you have any problems or queries, no matter how small, the staff will be only too happy to help, or contact Mr Reynolds, the headteacher of John Cross.
