        Castles  

This term we will be learning about castles and our classroom will have its own medieval castle and castle investigation and writing area. The children will also be able to design and build castles in the small world and construction area. Our English work will include reading & writing based on fantasy and mystery with many stories based on dragons. Our classroom will also have a fantasy writing area with opportunities for children to write their own stories.

Our topic will include work in history, geography, design technology, art and music and we will also be going on a topic linked trip.

Children will be exploring and researching to answer key questions:

Who built the first castles and why?

Why were castles built on hills? Were all castles built on hills?

What was a motte and bailey castle? How did castles change and why?

What are the main features of a medieval castle and what were they for?

Who lived and worked in castles?

What did they eat and where did they get their food from?
