PE & Sports Premium

The Sports Premium Funding is additional funding given to schools to ensure that all pupils receive high quality PE and out of hours school sport along with improved health and well-being.

At John Cross, we believe that physical activity, trying new challenges, self-confidence building and well-being are an essential part of a child's development, along with their academic and spiritual nurture.

How the money is spent and evaluating the impact of the Sports Premium:

At John Cross, we believe the strategies should positively impact on the children so that they develop skills and confidence as well as having a range of opportunities to enjoy sport and most importantly be healthy.  We also want our children to learn transferable skills and strategies that can be used in many different games and activities.

Please read below our spending strategy for this year, along with the intended impact and outcomes:

Swimming Achievements

We are very proud of our swimming attainment at John Cross and due to smaller mixed classes, children go swimming for at least 2 years in the juniors.  This means that by the end of Year 6, the vast majority meet expectations along with exceeding them.  With the proximity of canals and rivers to our location, we see this as an essential life skill for our children.

Here are our latest results:

In 2019-20 (Up until March 2020 lock-down) the percentage of pupils in year 6 who met the national curriculum requirement to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres was 100%, with 100% exceeding 50m
  • use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke  100% of Y6 children attained this.
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.  100% of Y6 children attained this.
